Get to know me!
Hi, I’m Angelica,
I’m a first year Physiotherapy student at Curtin University. Physiotherapy combines my love of science and sport with my desire to pursue a career where I problem solve and think on my feet. I also value that physio makes a meaningful difference to people lives. My journey into physio was complicated. In high school I received disappointing ATAR results and was diagnosed with ADHD. I didn’t make it into Physiotherapy; however, I began Health Science which helped me developed my resilience and perseverance.
I was born in South Africa and moved to Perth before my first birthday. Throughout my life I have seen my parents work hard to set up a new life for us. This has instilled a strong work ethic. My parents, younger brother and my dog who is a whippet, make a close family unit.
I have always been involved in sports, including netball, footy and cricket. These days I mainly do rock climbing and play summer cricket. As a creative outlet I have participated in various choirs and showcases and took singing lessons throughout high school.
My Values
My values encompass both my personal and professional life directing how I interact with others and can help you understand what to expect when working alongside or being treated by me.
My values include...
- Empathy
In both my personal and professional life, I strive to be someone people feel truly understands , helping them to feel less alone.
-Perseverance
Throughout my life perseverance has been incredibly important whether it be pushing myself in high school or in university. In particular last year when I had to push myself to do as well as possible, due to not getting into Physiotherapy directly from high school.
- Dependability
I value this on both a professional and personal level whether it comes to being on time to event or being a person, you can rely on to get something done.
-Authenticity
Authenticity is incredibly important to me as I feel only by being your true self can you find happiness.
-Loyalty
Throughout my interaction with friendships in particular I value loyalty. I will always be the person to stand up for my friend no matter what.
My future aspirations
I hope to one day become a Sport Physiotherapist who works with athletes; such as AFL teams and work alongside them travelling with the team. This dream brings together my love of sport, community, science and travel, along with my drive to think on my feet as much as possible. I am currently a sport trainer assisting me gain experience in this kind of role. I am hoping to find an opportunity to sport train for WAFL athletes to further my experience and help me on my path to my future career.
Later on, in life once I have settled down, I hope to maybe even own my own Physiotherapy practice.
